The variegated Albo Melo Alocasia is a rare form of Alocasia Melo Albo known for its thick, textured “dragon scale” leaves with creamy white variegation. It grows slower than regular Melo because the white sections contain less chlorophyll, so stable care is important.
Light
- Bright indirect light is best.
- Avoid harsh direct sun — white variegated areas burn easily.
- East-facing windows or filtered south light work well.
- If leaves get darker or lose variegation, increase light slightly.
Water
- Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy.
- Water when the top 1–2 inches feel dry.
- Use filtered, distilled, or rain water if possible since Alocasias can react to hard tap water.
Signs
- Yellow leaves = usually overwatering
- Crispy edges = low humidity or underwatering
- Drooping = thirsty or root stress
Humidity
This plant loves humidity.
- Ideal: 60–80%
- A humidifier helps a lot, especially in the Pacific Northwest during indoor heating season.
- Bathrooms or greenhouse cabinets work great.
Temperature
- Ideal range: 65–85°F
- Keep away from AC vents, cold drafts, and windows below 60°F.
Best Soil Mix
Use a chunky aroid mix:
- Potting soil or coco coir
- Orchid bark
- Perlite or pumice
- Optional charcoal/worm castings
The roots need airflow or they rot easily.
